About

Life Long Service to the Public

Kevin was born and raised in South Carolina and for the past 25 years Easley and Pickens County have been his home.

It’s where he bought a house with Julie – his wife of 27 years - joined a church, raised four wonderful children, and cheered on his Clemson Tigers.

Kevin has compiled a long and distinguished career in public service. He is uniquely prepared to serve as our Representative from the Third Congressional District.
Kevin got his start in high school in June 1988 serving as a Senate page in Washington for Strom Thurmond. After graduating from Clemson University in 1993 he moved to Washington and worked for the conservative Leadership Institute.

In 1994, he traveled to Texas to work on a Republican congressional campaign where he helped defeat a 42-year Democratic incumbent who was Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

In 1996, he worked for the Republican National Committee in Washington.

Kevin joined Lindsey Graham’s staff in 1997 when Graham represented South Carolina’s Third Congressional District in Washington. He moved back to South Carolina in 1999 and worked on Graham’s 2002 Senate campaign.

Kevin continued to serve as Graham’s Communications Director from 2003 until his retirement from the United States Senate in February 2024.

During his time as a top staffer to Graham, Kevin has had a front row seat to history and been part of many conservative victories.

He played an active role in the Senate confirmations of Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, Samuel Alito, and Chief Justice John Roberts. Kevin was also involved in the impeachment efforts against former President Bill Clinton and worked to twice acquit President Trump.

Kevin will bring unique, first-hand insight into the situation at the US-Mexico border. He has toured and discussed the situation with the U.S. Border Patrol at the Yuma (AZ), Tucson (AZ), and Del Rio (TX) sectors of the border.

Kevin and Julie, a middle school social studies teacher at R.H. Gettys Middle School in Easley, have four children. Preston, a senior at Clemson University. Ella, a sophomore at Clemson University. William, Cadet Third Class at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Margaret, a junior at Easley High School.

The Bishops are long-time members of Easley Presbyterian Church.

“For more than 25 years, Kevin has served the people of South Carolina exceedingly well. I, along with the people of South Carolina, have benefitted from his work on their behalf.

“Kevin has one of the brightest minds in public service. Kevin’s understanding of policy and politics at the state and national level is second-to-none. He has been an invaluable advisor and friend — and at times, a sparring partner on the issues.

“More than 20 years ago, when I represented the Third Congressional District in the House of Representatives, Kevin asked if he could relocate back to South Carolina for a better way of life and to live with our constituents. Kevin and his wife Julie moved to Easley and have never looked back.”

-- Senator Lindsey Graham, January 24, 2024.
